Uruguay vs Brazil: Nunez and De La Cruz lead Uruguay to victory

Uruguay have secured a 2-0 win over Brazil in their 2026 World Cup qualifying match.

Goals from Darwin Nunez and Nicolas de la Cruz were enough to give Uruguay the victory in front of their home crowd at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.

Uruguay started the match brightly and took the lead in the 34th minute when Nunez finished off a cross from Luis Suarez. Brazil pushed for an equaliser in the second half, but Uruguay defended resolutely and doubled their lead in the 71st minute when De La Cruz scored a stunning goal from outside the box.

The win takes Uruguay to the top of the CONMEBOL standings, while Brazil remain in second place. Both teams have now played two matches in the qualifying campaign, with Uruguay winning both of their games and Brazil winning one and drawing one.

The next match between Uruguay and Brazil will be played on 27 March 2023 at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
